This post was submitted by Wayne Dibbley. Wayne is a software engineer who writes articles for DegreeJungle.com (an education site for students researching college options) in his spare time. Through his own research into online reputation, he has discovered some very interesting tips and pointers, which he is happy to pass onto others.

To gain a reputation online you first need to be known by the online community. This is a tricky problem, since most of the First World is part of the online community. Therefore, your first step towards growing your online reputation is targeting the portion of the online community who will benefit the most from knowing about you.

If you are an e-commerce website or business in general, your target audience will be your potential customers. If you run a blog, then your potential audience will be the people interested in your niche. Do not forget that some people who are interested in certain niches can be converted into customers, for example a gardening blog may aptly drive traffic to a gardening tools website.

The great thing about social media is that it allows for some of the most targeted communication on the Internet. Continue Reading…

This post was submitted by Sybil Brodie. At this time of year, Syb’s honest and transparent guest post reminded me of the plentiful opportunities you and I have as believers in Jesus Christ to share His message during the Christmas season. Syb’s prayer is that her writings will encourage and inspire others to seek Jesus as they read what He has done in and through her life. Follow Syb at her blog: Encouragem: Gems of Encouragement. You can also follow her on Facebook.

“…always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” 1 Peter 3:15

What message will we bring to a non-believing world? Will it be a message of a liberating, light-bearing Saviour who loves us unconditionally? Or will it be one of an intolerant, legalistic, judgemental God? Am I fit for His service?

For years I have taken to heart the Bible’s message to “love my neighbour as myself.” No problem there. Where I fall on my face is when Jesus tells me to “go and be fishers of men.”

This sounds so simple, but I have wrestled often with how I can do this when my verbal skills are woefully lacking. When I try to tell others about Jesus, I get overly anxious. What I know in my heart does not come out of my mouth! Frustration with myself, along with the other person’s frustration with me, quickly ends any meaningful dialogue.  Continue Reading…

This post was submitted by Frederick Maystone, who writes on behalf of Projects Abroad about everything to do with gap years, including organising several volunteering missions in Africa. Projects Abroad offer a series of different gap year programs around the world.

A gap year provides the chance for those finishing study to take a break and see something of the world at the same time. After long periods of intense study, many young people feel that they need an opportunity to reconnect with themselves. Others view the experience as a valid way to gain work experience prior to starting a career.

A three-year study by Manchester Metropolitan University found that students who took a gap year felt that the experience had been worthwhile and had given them extra confidence. One of the researchers, Lucy Huxley, said that those taking a gap year were “getting a sense of confidence and maturity. It’s a cliché about finding yourself, but that still seems to be apparent and they are certainly getting something from it.”

So what are the best ways to spend a gap year, month or even week?   Continue Reading…

This is a guest post by RayDeck3. He is a writer, event coordinator, and project manager at Word of Life Fellowship. When he is not assembling sequences of words, he can be found wakesurfing on Schroon Lake. You can connect with him at RayDeck3.com, on Twitter, or on Facebook.

We need to talk. All that scurrying around that you do every day, reading blogs, checking Facebook, scanning your twitter feed, and email… it’s not getting you anywhere.

I know you heart is right. You want to be connected to the online community. You want to be available to your employer and your clients. You are building a platform. I’m right there with you (believe me) but all that multitasking is killing your productivity.

Stop Multitasking

Everybody knows that multitasking is bad for you. Scientific study after scientific study has told us as much. Multitasking degrades your focusslows you downdegrades the quality of your work and stresses you out. I read an article in the Harvard Business Review recently that claimed multi-tasking causes a 10-point drop in IQ and an overall productivity drain of 40%.

There has been plenty written by “those who know” about the positive benefits of guest posting for bloggers and readers both. With that in mind, I would love to have you write for my blog.

I want to give you the opportunity to you, around 1,000 unique visitors per month, to hear how to “live deliberately” from other perspectives.

Write for my blog

Perhaps you have a story or illustration of living deliberately that’s just waiting to get out and be shared with others, to bless our lives as it has yours. I invite you to consider guest posting here. I am currently planning to publish one guest post per week.

(Note: The following guest post guidelines have been developed based upon both the Guest Post Guidelines at DailyBlogTips and An Invitation to Write for My Blog by Michael Hyatt.)  Continue Reading…

While a departure from my normal run of posts, the topic matter covered here is absolutely at the core of what I believe. I am indebted to Dale Flynn for this guest post; he has clearly put into words what I was struggling to arrive at in my writing. I trust this, if nothing else, at least helps you think about the most important things in your life.

Dale and his wife, Liz, are Word of Life Local Church Ministries missionaries in eastern Maryland. Dale is a Local Church Ministries curriculum editor and is the editor of the Ministering to the Minister E-Transfer national electronic Pastor’s newsletter. Questions or comments about this post may be addressed to Dale at dflynn@wol.org or in the comments section below.

One of the greatest opportunities for us to witness is now upon us, Easter, which I prefer calling Resurrection Sunday. It affords us a natural opening to share the Good News of the substitutionary death, burial, resurrection, and bodily appearance whereby Jesus was seen of many witnesses.
